check out this insane series, totems by french
photographer alain delorme [all images © alain delorme]

so delorme was in shanghai on a two year residence, and was inspired by the incredible loads carried by migrant workers every day. i believe it was delorme's goal to juxtapose the intense weight of the loads against the gorgeous colours to create something visually stunning. these images are obviously an exaggerated look at what these people do, but they turned out beautifully, don't you think?
another example of his incredible work is his series, little dolls, completed in 2006.
the concept of these images is to make a note of the way young girls, often who are involved in beauty competitions, are forcibly made to look and act a certain way. in all of the images, the young girls' characteristics are extremely airbrushed and exaggerated [did you SEE romane's eyes? i mean damn!], and the "parents" controlling hands are visible. as someone who has seen first-hand the demented nature of beauty pageant parents, i feel that these images are an accurate representation of what the mindset is of pageant parents...constantly working to make their child "perfect."
pretty disturbing, eh? and yet magical.
is anyone else waiting with bated breath for belle's ophelia+belle do tell debut?
i know i am...
